National

1. India has officially emerged as the world’s second-largest solar growth market, overtaking the US in annual capacity additions. The country's total installed solar capacity has crossed a massive 155 GW milestone, marking a monumental 5,370% increase since 2014.

International

1. NATO has commenced its BALTOPS 2026 naval exercises in the Baltic Sea involving 20 warships and 6,000 personnel. The exercise aims to reinforce maritime security and collective defence amid ongoing tensions with Russia.
2. France is hosting the G7 Summit from 15–17 June 2026 in Évian. The high-level talks will focus heavily on the Ukraine conflict, Middle East security, and global economic stability. Notably, India has been formally invited to participate in these crucial global discussions.

Defence

1. Admiral Krishna Swaminathan officially assumed charge as India’s 27th Chief of the Naval Staff on 31 May 2026, succeeding Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi.
2. India has successfully integrated its fourth squadron of the Russian-made S-400 Triumf air defence system, significantly boosting air defence capabilities. The fifth and final squadron is on track for delivery later this year.

Sports

1. India has entered the final of the SAFF Women’s Championship after defeating Bhutan 1–0 in the semifinal at Margao, Goa, on 3 June. Midfielder Sanfida Nongrum scored the match-winning goal in the 58th minute.
2. India has delivered a stellar performance at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships, securing 2nd place in the overall medal standings with 19 medals, finishing just behind China.
