National
1. The Govt has allocated Rs 7210 crore to Phase III of the e-Courts project, towards modernizing the country’s judicial system. This initiative aims to leverage the technology to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of the courts.
2. Santiniketan where Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore spent much of his life, has become the 41st UNESCO World Heritage Site in India and the 3rd in West Bengal, after the Sundarbans National Park and the Darjeeling Mountain Railways. Also, the Hoysala temples in Karnataka became the 42nd UNESCO World Heritage Site in India.
3. Govt has launched a series of initiatives, aimed at revolutionizing agriculture in the country. It includes the Kisan Rin Portal, Door-to-Door KCC Campaign & Weather Information Network Data Systems (WINDS) Manual.
4. Govt approved the Women Reservation Bill, which mandates a 33% reservation for women in both the Lok Sabha and state assemblies of India. This monumental legislation aims to ensure equal representation for women in the highest legislative bodies of the country.
5. PM Narendra Modi unveiled Phase 1 of the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC)*, named *‘Yashobhoomi.’ This facility is constructed at a cost of Rs 5,400 crore & promises to redefine the landscape of meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) on a global scale.
International
1. PM Narendra Modi has invited U.S. President Joe Biden to be the chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations on January 26 next year.
2. The GOI has declared that it has surpassed Japan and China to become Bangladesh’s largest export partner. The Bangladesh's export to India was $2 billion.
Sports
1. The Indian cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by 10 Wickets to win the Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo. Mohammed Siraj was declared player of the match and Kuldeep Yadav player of the series.
2. Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan has won the gold medal in the women’s 10-metre air rifle event at the ISSF World Cup 2023 in Brazil.
Defence
1. The Indian Army will raise a regiment of Pralay tactical ballistic missiles, to develop a strategic rocket force. The range of pralay missile is 150-500km.
